Your Microbiome & the Glass Skin Trend. How to get glowing healthy skin.

My Skincare Journey: Routine |+ Consistancy - The Science behind Glowing Skin & The Microbiome

Hey Co Co Besties,

For years, I've been on a mission to protect my skin and keep it healthy. At 36, I'm a firm believer in finding a routine that works and sticking with it. For the past 4 years, I've relied on a consistent set of products, with minor tweaks here and there. But recently, my skin started telling a different story.

This experience made me ask important questions:

  • What does my skin need right now?

  • What kind of look am I going for?

  • Are these skincare trends worth the hype?

Let's delve into two hot topics: the gut-skin connection (microbiome) and the ever-popular glass skin trend.

The Glass Skin Phenomenon

Glass skin, a K-beauty staple, promises a luminous, even complexion. It's all about achieving peak skin health and hydration, resulting in a radiant glow – any season, any time.

Beyond the Glow-Up

Glass skin isn't just about aesthetics; it signifies healthy skin. It means reduced blemishes, fewer wrinkles, and a youthful appearance. This trend is more than a passing fad; it's a commitment to healthy skin practices.

The Microbiome Explained

Our skin's microbiome is a unique ecosystem of bacteria, fungi, and viruses. Diet, lifestyle, and environment all influence this microbiome. Stress, for example, can affect how much moisture your skin needs.

The Power of Probiotics

Probiotics, live microorganisms, are gaining traction in skincare for their potential anti-aging benefits. They can help maintain a healthy balance of bacteria on your skin's surface, reducing the risk of acne and other issues.

How to Nurture Your Skin Microbiome

  • Eat a balanced diet: Nourish your body and skin with a variety of healthy foods.

  • Hydrate: Water is essential for flushing toxins and promoting a healthy glow over time.

  • Gentle cleansing: Wash your hands regularly, but avoid harsh products that can disrupt your skin's natural balance.

  • Explore prebiotics: Prebiotics, found in fruits, vegetables, and grains, promote the growth of beneficial gut bacteria, indirectly impacting your skin. My fave that I love to hate is a shot Apple Cider Vinegar in the am and pm.

Signs of Healthy Skin

Healthy skin goes beyond being just clear and smooth. It has a natural, radiant glow. While glass skin is a popular term, remember that everyone's skin is unique. Perfection doesn't exist, and a few minor imperfections are completely normal.I look for signs and treat them accordingly. Usually my skin is suffering from dehydration or hyperpigmentation and I treat them accordingly. The Morning Must-Do's

The morning is prime time for skincare. After cleansing away the night before, you have a fresh canvas to work with. Keep your routine quick and simple: cleanse, tone, moisturize, and apply essence or serum (don't forget sunscreen!). Look for products with hyaluronic acid or vitamin C to boost collagen production for firmer skin.

The Takeaway: Glowing Skin Starts From Within

Achieving a healthy glow starts with a good morning routine and using products suited to your skin type. Be patient and consistent – it may take a few weeks to see results.
